Aeronauticum is the official German air ship and maritime aircraft museum, located right next to a military base and a small GA air strip. The museum consists of a large outdoor collection of various aircraft, and an indoor air ship exhibit.
All of the exhibits are, as expected, in German. But the museum does offer a nice binder with English translations, make sure you get that when purchasing your tickets.
Air ships inside
The indoor part of the museum consists mainly of the air ship exhibits. Make sure you remember to go upstairs and have a look inside the air ship. It sure looks spacious and comfortable compared to an airplane cockpit!
Airplanes outside
After walking through the indoor exhibit, you continue outside where all the aircraft are displayed. There is also a maintenance/restoration hangar which you can visit. You can walk inside one of the aircraft, when staff are present. A couple of the other aircraft have stairs that let you look inside the cockpit.
Gift shop and café
The museum has a nice gift shop and a small café, with various toy aircraft, models, clothing, books, and other aviation related items.
Nice playground outside
For families, there’s also a nice playground right outside the entrance, and a nice indoor play room right after the entrance.
How much time should you plan to spend here?
You should plan around an hour or so, a bit more if you plan to use either the café or the playground.
